the little lettuce wrap that could

the wee one is across the cul-de-sac at the neighbor's house for a couple hours and i found myself, alternately, running around the house wondering what to do with myself (i get the.whole.house. to myself for 2 hours!?) and peeking out the window to make sure they weren't bringing him back early.

sweet and sour sloppy joes with sesame slaw

i love a recipe where sweet, salty and spicy come together and make my mouth and my taste buds happy, happy, happy.

turkey + beef meatloaf patties with a sriracha glaze

this recipe is a delicious, easy and sneaky way to get lots of vegetables into your meat focused dinner. the key to making the veggies stealth is to chop them tiny and to saute them in some olive oil to soften them before adding them to the meat mixture. i added onion, zucchini, red bell peppers, carrots and yellow summer squash. i think finely chopped spinach and green bell peppers would be a tasty addition!

all american beef chili

this recipe makes a tasty truckload o'chili, so you may want to do as i did and halve the recipe. if you want to make the full recipe, you can just feed a crowd or freeze a bunch of it.

i've been feeling very full lately and feeling the need to cut back on carbs, so i have been peppering the weekly menu with paleo(ish) recipes.

the best pot roast ever. for reals.

this roast starts with a salt rub the night before- kosher salt, thyme and rosemary.

rub it all over that hunk of beef and let it hang out in the fridge overnight.

homemade taco seasoning (scary, unpronounceable ingredient-free)

football food

okay, let me be upfront here and say that i could really give a rat's ass (what exactly does that mean???) about football.

i don't watch it, i don't do fantasy football or whatever, and i generally can be found with my nose in a book or magazine or in the kitchen cooking when there is a game on. because, while i don't give a gerbil's tail (new saying) about football, what i can get on board with is the food.

spicy homemade chili piled atop some crispy, hot fry action. nachos. tater tots and special sauce. tater tots smothered in melted cheddar cheese and bacon. man, i love me some tots. lil' smokies in a blanket with some dijon for dippin'. loco moco. homemade carne asada fries. you know, football watchin' food.

who wants to buy me a fancy camera?

i have come to the conclusion that i need (want. need. want?) a digital slr (single lens reflex) camera. my trusty digital camera is great but in order to take better, brighter, truer photographs of food, i think i need a dslr. thats what all the cool kids with food blogs use.

i long to be one of the cool kids.

anyone have one they want to sell to me on the cheap?

this is the best pic i got out of the batch i shot tonight, and it's just meh. the light wasnt great since the sun was already down so that didnt help either. the burger looks grey when in fact in was delicious and perfectly cooked- pink and juicy inside and a lovely golden brown on the outside (high five, daniel!) and the special sauce looks kinda gross in these, too, but was tasty.
