nixon grub

it is a whole new world in my kitchen.

one that revolves around frozen food, quick meals, ready-to-eat meals from the refrig section at trader joe's and most recently, cooking for the wee bebe. he actually isn't wee anymore, he's morphed from a little peanut into a handsome and dimpled almost 6 month old.

its been a huge adjustment (yes, i know a newborn is always a huge adjustment) but its been a crazy adjustment from having time to cook 3 course meals for the mister and i to figuring out what can be made for dinner in 15 minutes or less and hopefully will contain at least 1 vegetable. on the plus side, because i don't have the time to cook or eat the way i used to, i have shed 30 pounds. 30!

we have just started real food with nixon and i have to admit, i have been looking forward to this for a couple months now. i have been reading that book in the above photo for over a month, chomping at the bit until he showed us all the cues that tell us that he is ready for food. he is SO interested in watching us eat, tracking our spoons or forks from our plates straight to our mouths, he has good head control and has lost that pesky thrust reflex.

in other words, "bring on da grub!"

we have tried rice cereal, oatmeal, banana, applesauce and avocado thus far. tonight i roasted an organic white sweet potato and will puree that with a little water and good olive oil tomorrow and offer it to the bebe. i am already planning what comes next- sweet peas, carrots and maybe some local beets. i can't wait to hit up the farmer's market and get inspired!

i do promise that this blog won't be a space all about bebe food, but it will definitely be making an appearance here and there. and i promise to try to make more of an appearance here than i have in the past 6 months. it has been 3 months since my last post. sorry, friends. i just get so distracted and engaged by this guy

but you can't really blame me, right?
