homemade taco seasoning (scary, unpronounceable ingredient-free)

what do you eat the night before thanksgiving?

do you eat peanut butter from a spoon, straight outta the jar or grab take out or eat toast with butter and honey?

i eat tacos.

they are so quick and easy and are one of our go-to (aka i have absolutely no idea what to cook and i don't really want to cook but i'm SOOO hungry) dinners. i just whip up a batch of taco seasoning when i have 3 moments free, put it in a jar and it's on the shelf whenever the mood for tacos strikes, as it does pretty often in this house. pretty much every time i tell the mister that we are having tacos for dinner, his response is, "i like tacos".

and guess what?

i like tacos, too.

homemade taco seasoning

1/4 c. chile powder
1 tbsp chipotle chile powder
1 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1 1/4 tsp. onion powder
1 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
2 1/2 tsp. paprika
2 tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1 tbsp. plus 2 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. black pepper (optional)

brown 1 pound ground beef, ground turkey or ground chicken for 7 minutes then add 2 tbsp taco seasoning, a splash of water and/or a little tomato paste or tomato sauce. mix well and continue cooking until the meat is fully cooked.

fiesta in your mouth.
