buttermilk biscuits in your face

see that image above? that was a lovely way to start my morning- a cup of steaming hot french press coffee, my current favorite reading material, and a flaky, cheesy buttermilk biscuit with some local + organic scrambled eggs.

i'm pretty sure you need to get on this recipe and get some buttermilk biscuit action, all up in your face!

this is only the third time i have made biscuits from scratch and i'm still figuring out how to get them to be taller, fluffier. these were absolutely not lacking in the yum department, but i guess i pressed them too thin and so they didn't get as high as i thought they were going to. the first time i made biscuits they came out flat as a pancake, so this was definitely an improvement!

the original recipe from a cozy kitchen added ham to the biscuits but i threw some sharp cheddar and parm-reg into them instead of the ham and they were buttery, cheesy, savory deliciousness.

i think they would be equally delightful with cheddar + chives, pepperjack, cheddar + jalapeno or bacon + gruyere + little bits of caramelized onion.

they reminded me of the cheddar bay biscuits from red lobster. you know what i'm talking about. i could eat an entire basket of those and not feel an ounce of remorse!

what ever happened to sir mix-a-lot? i had this song in my head while i made these.

for reals.
