farmer's market bounty

i don't make it to the local farmer's market as often as i would like. realistically, i am probably there, cruising the stalls, once every 3 weeks. but, every time i do get my butt out of bed, manage to throw on some clothes and make it down there i am so happy that i did.

this is what greeted me today at the market...

dragon's tongue beans

eggplant and lotsa peppers

there was squash everywhere. butternut, spaghetti and acorn squash and pumpkins of every shape and size.

more eggplant!

there were plenty o' tomatoes. i scored and found a crate of san marzanos (my fave!) and bought several pounds of those.

persimmons

look at those beautiful oyster mushrooms.

i brought home a full bag of basil, salad greens, san marzanos, eggplant, butternut squash, red bell peppers and some bacon and a pork butt roast from llano seco rancho.

as a happily unemployed person (as of today) i will be using much of my plentiful free time this week, in the kitchen.

i will be making...

***butternut squash stuffed with brown rice, onions, garlic, white wine, thyme, bacon and gruyere

***ratatouille

***moussaka

***slow roasted pork in green curry + coconut milk

***a couple jars of pesto

***korean bbq pork chops (soy sauce, sesame oil, lime, garlic, brown sugar + scallions. so GOOD)

i can't wait!

if you live in northern california, let me just say that now is a great time to get to the farmer's market. it is bursting with late summer AND early fall harvest.

rouse yourself from that sleepy stupor, throw on whatever you can find, grab a cup of coffee and get there. you won't be sorry that you did.
